Email Dashboard

Connect your inbox, search and organize case correspondence, compose replies with case document attachments, and send when you are ready. The AI agent can read, tag, link, and draft — but you send mail from the dashboard.

Connect Inbox

Gmail, Microsoft, and more via Service Connections (Cloud OAuth)

Full-Text Search

Fast search across subjects, body text, and senders

Compose & Send

Attach workspace documents; you review and send

Opening the Email Dashboard

  • Keyboard: Press Ctrl+Shift+E
  • Command Palette: Ctrl+Shift+P → "SafeAppeals: Open Email Dashboard"
  • Activity Bar: Click the mail icon in the left sidebar

Connect Your Inbox

The primary way to use the Email Dashboard is to connect a real mailbox via Service Connections — SafeAppeals Cloud OAuth for Gmail, Microsoft 365, and similar providers. This is separate from signing in to SafeAppeals Cloud for AI credits; mail grants are added as service connections when you choose to connect.

  1. Open SafeAppeals Settings or the cloud dashboard connections page
  2. Choose Connect for your email provider (Google, Microsoft, etc.)
  3. Complete OAuth in the browser and return to SafeAppeals
  4. Open the Email Dashboard — synced threads appear for search and organization

Not MCP: You do not need a Gmail MCP server for everyday mail. Built-in email tools work with Service Connections. See MCP Servers only for advanced third-party integrations.

Agent-Assisted Email

In Agent mode, the assistant uses built-in safeappeals_email_* tools to search threads, read messages, tag and link correspondence to cases, and create drafts. It cannot send email.

  • Search and list threads across connected accounts
  • Tag, hide, or link threads to the active case
  • Create draft replies (can include attachments from workspace files)
  • You open the draft in the dashboard, review, attach more if needed, and click Send

Full tool list: Agent Tools.

Compose, Attach & Send

When you compose or edit a draft in the Email Dashboard:

  1. Write or refine your message in the inline editor
  2. Click Attach to add documents from your case workspace (reports, letters, PDFs)
  3. Review recipients, subject, and attachments
  4. Click Send when ready — sending always requires your explicit action

Draft attachments: Attachments on drafts are stored securely on your machine under managed extension storage — not uploaded until you send.

Viewing & Searching

List View vs Compact View

Use the toolbar to switch between List View (full cards) and Compact View (single-line rows).

Each email card shows sender, subject, preview, case link, attachment indicator, and draft badge.

Search

Full-text search across subject, body, and sender. Click the search icon, type your query, press Enter.

claimFind emails containing 'claim'
denialFind denial-related correspondence

Filter & Sort

Filter by case folder or tags. Sort by date (default newest first), sender, or subject.

Inline Draft Editing

Compose reply drafts directly within email cards — no extra windows.

Version History

Every save creates a new draft version. Open History in the editor header to preview and restore prior versions.

Import .eml Files (Secondary)

You can also import archived messages without connecting a live inbox:

EML.eml

Standard email message format with headers, body, and attachments.

PDF.pdf

Printed/exported email documents (embedded text required).

  1. Open the Email Dashboard
  2. Click Import Emails
  3. Select one or more .eml or .pdf files

Imported mail is indexed locally. For ongoing correspondence, connecting your inbox via Service Connections is recommended.

Troubleshooting

Inbox not syncing

Re-check Service Connections in settings. Ensure OAuth completed and the connection shows active.

Send button unavailable

Confirm a connected account with send permission. Complete the draft and resolve any validation errors.

Agent created a draft I cannot find

Open Email Dashboard and filter for draft badge, or search by subject. Agent drafts appear like user drafts.

.eml import failed

Ensure the file is valid .eml or .pdf with embedded text (not scanned images).
